Requirements 

  1. Applicants can opt to undertake a period of internship at a host institution local or overseas, provided approval is sought at UTAR. The duration of internship can be two weeks or up to one academic year. Applicants are advised to choose MoU/MoA partner institutions/industries/NGOs (please refer to ‘Collaborative Partners’ (link to: http://dcinternet.utar.edu.my/industry_partners.php) for their internship. 
  2. No stipend or allowance for the internship/ research at a host institution. No tuition, registration and administrative fees are charged unless stated otherwise and agreed by both institutions. 
  3. Applicants must return to UTAR to continue and complete their programme of study/research. The awarding of a degree is by UTAR, not the host institution. 
  4. Written approvals and recommendation from UTAR and a brief of the internship/ research must be provided during the application for the exchange programme. 
  5. Applicants pay for their return airfare, accommodation, transport, meals, stationery, insurance and other living expenses for the duration of their exchange programme at the host institution.



Application procedures 

  1. The application form for both academic exchange and internship can be obtained here with passport photo. 
  2. Required documents for submission:
    i. One certified copy of the full UTAR Notification of Exam Results
    ii. Letter of recommendation from the Head of Department / Dean and stating the purpose of joining the programme at Host University
    iii. One photocopy of the approved leave of absence application form (if applicable)
    iv. One passport-sized colour photograph with white background ONLY (4.5cm x 3.5cm)
    v. One photocopy of passport (photo and issuance date page)
    vi. Evidence of visa approval (if relevant)
    vii. Indemnity letters
    viii. One Photocopy of flight ticket information (after approval)

  3. Submit hard copies of the above documents & application form to Division of Community & International Networking (DCInterNet) either at Sungai Long Campus or Kampar Campus and send soft copies to dcinternet@utar.edu.my.

  1. Applicants are advised to check host universities' website for programme information and the commencement date of the chosen semester. The list of Mou / MoA partners can be obtained here. Application should preferably commence 6 months prior to departure date. 
  2. Applications are subject the approval by both UTAR and the selected host institution. Once approved, the letter of admission will be issued by the selected host institution. Applicants do the necessary documentations before commencing the overseas studies including passport and visa application, health and travel insurance, ticketing and all other relevant preparations. 
All the hardcopy of submission will not be returned.



Fees & expenses 

Partner institutions 
  1. UTAR students pay tuition fees only to UTAR not the host institution for the internship programme. 
  2. The amount of tuition fees payable depend on the internship credit transfers requested and approved. The tuition fee per credit hour is based on UTAR standard rates. No registration and administrative fees are charged for the internship programme unless agreed by both institutions. 
  3. Subjects taken at host institution where credit transfers are not sought will not be charged tuition fee by UTAR but may be charged by the host institution depending on the terms of the agreement which may vary between partner institutions. 
  4. Applicants are responsible for the return air fare, transport, meals, accommodation, books, stationery and other living expenses while on the exchange programme. Visa and travel documentation charges imposed by the host country are generally paid by UTAR applicants prior to departure. 

Non-Partner institutions 
  1. UTAR students are required to pay the published programme tuition fees and all other miscellaneous fees charged by the host institution. 
  2. The amount of tuition fees charged will depend on the subjects/credits enrolled and the duration of study at host institutions. Applicants are advised to seek consultation with their Faculty and CEE staff prior to submitting applications to host institutions. 
  3. Applicants are required to pay for the return airfare, transport, meals, accommodation, books, stationery and other living expenses during the exchange programme at the host institution.
